Long Beach Local
Long Beach Local is an agriculture based official 501(c)3 non-profit. We focus on educating residents about urban farming here in the city of Long Beach. We are an all volunteer organization and rely on donations, grant funding and the sale of our farm products to cover our operational costs.
We have a 1-acre farm located at 2714 California Ave called Farm Lot 59. On our 1 acre we grow food and flowers the old fashioned way using our hands, without pesticides and chemicals. We have egg laying hens for pest management and bee hives for pollination and honey production.
On a weekly basis we pick up restaurant scraps to help in our compost production and soil management. In Long Beach we burn our garbage so its already not going into a landfill but by composting we are directing the organic matter back into the soil instead of the incinerator.
We also work with numerous schools and are building a children's garden and learning center that will hopefully be up and running by this fall. If you are a teacher and are interested in visiting us or hosting classes please email us.
If you are interested in volunteering your time or want to check us out please come down on Wednesday's, Friday's or 2nd Saturday between 9-3. This info can be found in our calendar section.
Thanks and see you on the farm.
